IABC Colorado History

Get Acquainted with IABC Colorado

For more than four decades, IABC Colorado has served as a valuable resource to Colorado’s business communicators committed to delivering strategic, integrated communications. The chapter also provides a local connection to the resources of IABC International, which serves more than 15,000 members in over 80 countries across the globe.

Early History
In its formative years, the Colorado group was part of an association of industrial editors and met downtown at the Denver Press Club for several decades. The industrial editors national and international groups went through several identities between 1940 to the late 1960s. As business leaders across the globe recognized the value of effective communications, the role shifted from “editor” to that of “communicator.”

In 1970, ICIE and the American Association of Industrial Editors (AAIE) amalgamated to form the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC). During the transition the local chapter name changed several times, but the unwavering commitment to offering a warm western welcome and encouraging excellence remained a constant.

Not long after joining IABC, the energetic young chapter was host to the IABC World Conference in Denver.

As part of IABC’s Southern Region, IABC Colorado hosted the 2015 Southern Region Conference and has a long history of member involvement at the regional and international levels.
